2nd Drafts 05/08/2012
I'm knee deep in a second full rework of Errant Intern. It's going well and I can see a better book evolving from the process. I'm continually jotting down new ideas for TBC II as well. I'm very excited to write it, but I think I may be doing one more book before I do. I've been influenced by several amazing books the past few months that have me really itching to tackle this next project that will be another stretch for me. First of June is my goal to start the next project. I'd like to have a good first draft ready by the holidays. Always good to set goals! Now I can look back on this post at the end of the year and just laugh, and laugh... Add Comment St. Augustine Trip 11/20/2011
Visited St. Augustine last weekend, Jayke's adoptive home town. Really great city for site seeing. Lots of history. Didn't make it into some of the buildings I wanted to, such as the Lightner Museum and the Cathedral Basilica, but it was great to see so many locations from the book in real life. I even managed to drive over the Bridge of Lions without incident (inside joke if you've read the book). I've made head way on Errant Intern and am now working through a rewrite. Just finished up chapter 9 (I think). Still hoping for a Christmas finish. That's what I'm asking Santa for anyway. Self-imposed, Missed Deadlines 10/06/2011
Had a wonderful birthday but missed my deadline of having a good first draft of my book, Errant Intern, completed. I did complete the last chapter and am very happy with how it's going to end. Now I just need to play connect the chapters! The missing pages require a certain mindset I'm just not in, so I'm not going to rush it. I'd rather write it well the first time than put down something that will need heavy revising later. I'm now shooting for a Christmas finish. We'll see if the book is as clean as I think it is. Editing for The Buried Covenant took longer than the writing of it. We'll see... Goodreads.com 06/13/2011
A lot of people checking out this site probably already know about the site goodreads.com. But for the uninitiated, this is a wonderful site for reading enthusiasts. There's so much information about what's good, what's bad, and lots of people to connect with and talk to about books (and whatever else). If you haven't checked out the site, I highly recommend it. And come find me and send me a friend request! And if you've read The Buried Covenant, tell people what you thought. A second book? Really? 06/02/2011
As I've been writing my next book, Errant Intern, my mind keeps wandering back to Jayke and where we left him at the end of The Buried Covenant. It seems I've left quite a few loose ends to deal with and my brain hates dangling loose ends! The good news is, getting a little distance from the story is letting my brain see the bigger picture. So while Jayke and Ashley and Ben and Tina are on an extended school break, their futures are being cobbled together in my subconscious. I don't think I'll be able to let these ideas (which are being loosely chronicled on a yellow, lined notepad under a pile of bills on my desk) go unorganized for long. Stay tuned. Review on teensreadtoo.com 04/22/2011
Just had a review of the book posted at www.teenreadtoo.com. The site is really great with tons of information about great books targeted for teens. Always happy when someone enjoys the book. Check out the review at http://www.teensreadtoo.com/TheBuriedCovenant.html. Looking forward to lots more feedback as more people get their hands on the book; and finding inspiration for the next chapter in Jayke's journey. Now Available at lulu.com 03/31/2011
Just got The Buried Covenant available to order in paperback on Lulu. Very cool site with a great process for getting your stuff published. I'll be getting my copy any day now. Ordered one a few months ago, edited it for the one billitionthxxglle time (thats a lot) and reordered, spiffing up the cover page a little. It has a deeper blue now and stands out nicely. The Bridge of Lions Lion also got centered. He was a little out of sorts when I had him askew on the right side of the cover before. You really don't want a stone lion statue angry at you for too long. That never ends well. Chapter 1 page 03/03/2011
Added a page with Chapter 1 on it. Also added some random quotes from characters featured on the character profiles page. I'm working on getting a Lulu print version of the book ready to publish. Check back soon for an update on the print version availability. Jayke\'s Playlist 02/22/2011
Jayke's playlist are songs that inspired me while writing The Buried Covenant. Each song is a chapter title. If you've got a song that you think of when reading the book, post it here! I'd love to compile a reader inspired playlist as well. New page 02/13/2011
Added a new page, character profiles. Wanted to give a little background information on a few of the key players. Some of them give insight into why characters are the way they are. If there's a specific character you want to know more about, post here and I'll see if I can't add an entry for you. | AuthorShawn Keenan lives in Gulf Breeze, FL and The Buried Covenant is his debut young adult novel.
